I have a 1996 Ford Explorer with almost 160,000 miles on it. After this many miles...well...the armrest -- among other things -- is gonna wear out. For some time now I have just lived with this, letting the little worn out spot grow and grow. Well, at this point I've just about had it. It hurts to put my elbow in the same place I've put it for the past 7 years.
Since my truck is getting old, doors stop working, power antenna is shot, power locks on a few doors doesn't work, seats aren't comfortable, suspension is shot, and now my arm rest.

As sad as it was, I found myself in the position of having to replace the arm rest with something a little more sturdy, fashionable and without a goddamn hole in it. The vinyl that was on it (looked like leather - kinda) was not going to do. I'm not sure where to get vinyl (a few BDSM would know), but at any rate I wanted something much more cool and versatile. Something that said "party" as much as "comfort", "casual" and "classy."
I picked denim not only because it's easy to find and I had an old pair of jeans lying around, but because it makes a definate fashion statement. To me it says I am cool and resourceful and I like things a little rough...err...durable.

The seam down the middle just had to be there. I wanted to state "yup, these were jeans" and make my declaration to the world that I rule at the same time. I beleive I did just that. I wanted it to look like not only did I cut up a pair of old jeans, but that I knew how to upholster.
As you can see it took very few tools. Just an old pair of jeans, a staple gun (just small staples required), scissors and a philips head screwdriver (huhuhu, I said head).

And the BEST part is that the jeans are still wearable, although only half of them in public.
